My name is Greg Aurigemma, and I still have ALS. A year ago we received this devastating news and had two choices, throw in the towel or fight….Well, in my condition, my throwing arm is not what it used to be, so we FIGHT!!!
Taking a step back and giving some back story... I am a happily married man who was blessed to marry his high school sweetheart. We have been together for almost 30 years and married for 21. We have an amazingly bright, beautiful and caring teenage daughter, who like her mother, has stepped up in every way to help.
Late one Monday night in March 2021, we got the call we were dreading from the doctor...my wife calmly took my hand and said we have an army around us and my response was WE GOT THIS….this simply became the motto we live by each and every day and how Greg’s Army was officially formed.
In a few months we will be participating in our 2nd ALS Walk…to say the least, our first Walk was something I will never forget. The outpouring of support, love, hope, faith and togetherness that was surrounding my family and I in every aspect, was something that I never experienced before and was beyond grateful and blessed. For those who were able to be there and for those who were there with us in spirit, it truly meant to much, so we chose to do it again this year and help in every way we can find a cure.
So, many of you have asked, how have things changed in the last year? Well, it is interesting…some days are great, some days are okay, but still working full-time, pushing hard every day, doing therapy to keep up my strength and accepting and using more tech to make sure I stay who I am! ATTITUDE is EVERYTHING, that is one thing I continue to learn and try my best at each day.
In all seriousness, we are so fortunate with all the support and since last year the size of Greg’s Army has grown and continues to grow each day, and we THANK YOU. Where will this take us - I don't know, but I hope and believe a cure is coming. For right now, I take one day at a time and enjoy all of life gifts supported by the most amazing family and friends.
